Lori Gottlieb author of Maybe You Should Talk to Someone shares an effective technique to manage rumination.

🕒 Designate time for negative thoughts

Set aside 30 minutes each day to fully process everything that’s bothering you.

Allow yourself to feel and think through all the things that are upsetting.

🚫 Interrupt rumination during the day

Outside of the designated time, whenever negative thoughts arise, remind yourself, "I’ll deal with this later."

✋ Create a mental "Stop Sign"

By consciously postponing the rumination, you create a mental stop sign. This helps interrupt the cycle of overthinking.

💪 Train your mind to manage negative thoughts

With practice, your brain starts to adjust.

Over time, you’ll put more time between negative thoughts and rumination, gradually reducing its intensity throughout the day.
